Electric current Employee, more than than 1 year
Pros
Some fun people, and some very knowledgeable and experienced people as well. Remote-friendly civilization and testify the desire to interact and connect via clubs and activities.
Cons
Things needs to be done now or yesterday. Most managers have reasonable expectations but some do not. The visitor has many deadlines and expectations they push vigorously while they're still figuring out the business organization details, rather than waiting on those first.

Pros
I'g on the X team, which is sort of like a smaller startup within Postmates, and so your experience may be different. I joined remotely during Covid going on, and so far I've been enjoying the work very much. My team is awesome and super supportive, information technology'due south really surprising seeing the things you see on Glassdoor and Blind. The piece of work so far has been technically challenging also interesting. I've learned and so much in the time I've been hither and have been able to abound skills in areas that I lacked while working at my previous job. HQ has also been recently hiring a lot of new people, and a bunch of them seem like really potent hires.
Cons
There's lots of piece of work and nosotros're moving super fast. It's expected since X is a smaller startup within Postmates, simply sometimes it can be a flake hard to go along upwards with all the projects going on. There's besides tech debt that we demand to start addressing as we grow in complication
Thank you and so much for the feedback and welcome to the team! I am then happy to hear that y'all are enjoying your time here and so far and the challenges you are facing in your role are welcoming and interesting. As we continue to grow the organization and especially through COVID, we are hyperfocused on ensuring nosotros provide the smoothest onboarding and enablement feel we can to all of our new Postmates team members. Delight continue to provide feedback to your leadership squad and to my squad on your experience, suggestions, and anything else you lot would like to talk over as it relates to your personal and professional growth. These conversations simply lead to the best outcomes for both yous and Postmates. Thanks again! - Stephanie Garcia, SVP People.

Former Employee, more than 1 yr
Pros
- neat place to learn different technologies, every bit there are a lot beingness used - some strong engineers to acquire from, peculiarly on the infra side - at present has decent benefits including good parental leave (though only provides dejeuner 3 days a week)
Cons
- questionable leadership at every level - giant monolith with lots of tech debt, with a switch to micro services where some are unnecessary and only add to the complexity - when things go badly and in that location are outages, leadership will evidence their emotional immaturity past having outbursts and lack of trust and patience - a lot of fear of failure, which prevents big changes and stifles innovation - talks outwardly about how helping drivers brand money is a superlative priority, but almost ever prioritizes work that would meliorate company metrics over quality of life features for drivers, or even basic things such equally making sure they are paid in a timely manner - poor engineering management - lacks power to keep elevation talent

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We believe the all-time manner to grow and improve is past gaining insight from current and former team members. Great leadership is disquisitional to every company's success, and it takes fourth dimension to build. Anirban, our SVP of Engineering is committed to hiring and developing great managers for our team, with a focus on both technical expertise and alignment with our values and culture. In 2020 nosotros have had many promotions internally and continue to focus on growing and developing our team. Cheers for recognizing our high bar for engineering science talent and cutting edge technical stack, we accept pride in both of those things. As far as technical debt, as I'm sure you lot and nearly engineers realize, technical debt is an unfortunate reality for every engineering company and information technology takes time to reduce and eliminate., We accept been working on it through improving the technologies we are using and also by aggressively hiring engineers. We anticipate adding more than than 30 engineers by the end of the 2nd quarter to continue to evolve our platform as best in form for on-demand services. I too wanted to thank y'all for calling out our benefits. In order to continue to heighten our culture, we attempt to provide great benefits to support our squad and proceed to add new ones regularly. We recently introduced a number of new benefits, including starting a special relief fund during Covid-19 for our fleet. Again, give thanks you for sharing your feedback and for your contributions to Postmates, we wish you the best in your future endeavors. - Stephanie Garcia, SVP People

Erstwhile Employee, less than 1 year
Pros
Lots of remote folks. Very flexible schedule. Dog friendly office. Open plan function with diverse phone booths for privacy scattered around (I called them "fart boxes"). Friendly and helpful co-workers. Challenging engineering science to conquer and implement. I had a very competitive salary and the benefits are pretty thorough (bated from no 401K match, which almost never happens with "startups"). My squad was genuinely trying to do what's right for customers and especially the couriers who do Postmates work delivering things. In that location's a broad variety of overnice healthy snacks around the office and fully stocked coolers with all the soft drinks. Lunch is catered ii days per week (Meatless Mondays!) and one day each week every employee (even remote ones) gets complimentary credit towards a meal pickup at a Postmates-affiliated restaurant. Upwardly until the betoken I departed, the team was doing daily status meetings where we'd all talk near what we worked on yesterday, what we did today, and information technology was peculiarly encouraging when I'd recap some big achievement that I got done since the last meeting yesterday. Within six months, I had personally resolved or otherwise researched 70+ tickets — a healthy combination of new characteristic work and issues fixing. The company recently added a piddling incentive program named Bonusly where you can award points to co-workers for various hashtags (#teamwork! #leadership! #kaizen!) towards Amazon/Sephora/etc. gift cards, and I was so happy when people not in my straight team would just say "thanks!" to me for implementing their ideas or checking in with them to make sure their voices were being listened to. Bi-weekly town halls were sometimes loud or weird (for instance, the CEO showed up wearing a hot canis familiaris mascot costume to gloat some stadium partnerships; some other Looking Glass featured extremely misogynistic rap music playing on the loudspeakers prior to the presentation, weeks afterwards company-wide anti-harassment training). The colour commentary on private slack channels during these productions were usually very LOL.
Cons
A developer's first day introduction needs improvement. While I was impressed and moved past my directly teammates sending me greetings & welcome e-mails before my first day, the official engineering onboarding covered hardly annihilation I was going to work with on a day to twenty-four hours ground. It was up to the team pb to hold my paw through the process of getting the developer productive, which I certainly did within the offset day or so. One session that should be introduced could be titled "Information technology All-time Practices at Postmates" and perhaps too "best practices for IT security", but that isn't what onboarding is currently focused on for Postmates engineering. Even past startup standards, you'll likely be shocked with the ever-irresolute process management style. Just within six months, my squad started with i problems tracking system and two week sprints, then management mandated migrating to a different bug tracking database, then they switched to one calendar week sprints, then got rid of sprints completely in favor of a characteristic focused arroyo. One thing I liked was pair programming assignments (which is great manner to go to know your teammates well), only these were only mandated for perhaps a few weeks. These non-stop process changes, when combined with a ridiculous amount of steps to keep runway of in order to merely go a client release or hotfix version out, and y'all might understand if information technology could sometimes exist difficult to really focus on the underlying technical tasks. The revolving door to talent swings so fast information technology would make your caput spin. I started getting worried pretty quickly into my time at Postmates when emails started showing up looking something like this: "Howdy all, Today was ___ _______'s last day at Postmates. S/he was working with the _____ team as a _________ Engineer. Nosotros volition exist working to backfill the role. In all cases like this, we demand to make the best decision for the company, the team, and the person. I believe that this is the correct move." Individual contributors were kept in the night as to why these frequent decisions happened and I became accustomed to seeing eastward-mails like this every ii weeks or then. There is little for a developer to rely upon in order to gauge his/her functioning — my team went through three different applied science managers in a brusque amount of time and I personally only had initial 1-1 meetings with each and was never given whatsoever follow-upwardly meetings, career progress reports, helpful advice or even functioning reviews (which might non accept happened for anyone this year, at least when I expect at anonymous visitor discussion boards where other PM employees connect). If yous do get the short straw to go thrown out that calendar week, the People Squad has this down to a well oiled routine and here'south how it goes: yous'll exist invited to practise a normal-looking 1-1 with your technology manager (usually before in the forenoon before everyone else shows up at ten-ish). When you enter the meeting room, yous'll run into the manager and an HR person sitting adjacent to them. The meeting will last less than five minutes (probably the shortest meeting yous'll ever have at the visitor). Your work laptop & badge will be confiscated and you'll be escorted out. Slack and gmail will be cut off 5 minutes afterward. Github gets shutdown within the hour. If you accept a chance to get onto Bonusly earlier it gets cutting off the next day, endeavour to award points away to the folks that helped you out. Yous'll also be given a copy of the At Volition employment agreement y'all signed at the get-go, to remind you lot that anyone tin can get the heave ho at whatsoever time.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful feedback. I can tell that yous are someone who has a passion for what you do. Civilization and team synergy is something we really agree a high regard for and I can see that you do too. It is unfortunate that nosotros were non able to give you what you needed from a career trajectory standpoint. Equally y'all already know, speedily growing startups go through many iterations, have constant change and sometimes that environs of constant change and pivots is not for everyone. Thanks as well for pointing out our onboarding shortcomings. I concur, we can exercise a better task hither and are really in the process of creating a stronger and smoother onboarding feel for all new hires that will be launched at the commencement of adjacent year. Nosotros recently brought on our new Head of Engineering science, Anirban Kundu, and he is creating a new culture and alignment within the technology organization that will motivate and incentivize those who piece of work difficult and create meaningful results. Postmates is on a mission to hire the best and brightest out there who run across value in their work and are motivated to be part of a high performing team. Cheers over again for this feedback. We genuinely appreciate it and grow from it. Best of luck to you and your future endeavors. Electric current Employee, less than one year
Pros
Coworkers are kind and fun people to be around. Potentially interesting challenges to solve.
Cons
Micromanagement is the norm. Leadership comes with the arroyo that everyone is incompetent so they accept to have everything in their own hands. Expect to be openly chosen out almost details downwards to individual lines of code by managers who don't even have context of the code they are looking at. Y'all are expected to communicate exclusively via your managing director and to not ever communicate across teams directly. Hardly make the right decisions in your work considering of 'business needs' leading to a never ending screw of tech debt. Lack of transparency.
